IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) is a public-sector research, industrial innovation and training center active in the fields of energy, transport and the environment. Its mission is to provide public players and industry with efficient, economical, clean and sustainable technologies to take up the three major challenges facing society in the 21st century: climate change and environmental impacts, energy diversification and water resource management. It boasts world-class expertise.

IFP Energies nouvelles sets out 5 complementary, inextricably-linked strategic priorities that are central to its public-interest mission: producing fuels, chemical intermediates and energy from renewable sources, producing energy while mitigating the environmental footprint, developing fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly transport, producing environmentally-friendly fuels and chemical intermediates from fossil resources, providing environmentally-friendly technologies and pushing back the current boundaries of oil and gas reserves.





The French institute of science and technology for transport, development and networks (IFSTTAR) is a public research institution resulting from the merger of The French National Institute for Transport and Safety Research (INRETS) and the French Central Laboratory of Roads and Bridges (LCPC). The IFSTTAR has 1200 staff of which 620 are researchers and 22 research units. It is a national research centre focused on civil engineering and transport systems.

IFSTTAR research roadmap includes the following area:

  • Safety of people transportation systems,
  • Innovative transportation systems,
  • Reliability and sustainability of transport systems, optimization of energy consumption, reduction of environmental impact,
  • Roads Design, Construction,
  • Engineering Structures Design, Construction, Maintenance,

kanlo   KANLO is a research oriented SARL in the domain of Energy and Environmental modeling and analysis. KANLO is a sister company of HALOA (Canada) and KANORS (India), two organizations with a combined experience of more than 30 years in the domain. KANLO combines expertises in Mathematical Modeling, Energy Technology, and Software Development. Its key founding members Dr R. Loulou and Dr A. Kanudia, have been major contributors to the creation and continued operation of large scale mathematical-techno-economic models of the MARKAL and TIMES family. Among these, a 16 region World Integrated Assessment Model (TIAM-WORLD) and a 30 region Pan European TIMES energy-environment model (PET). Both models were used in several major projects since 2003. KANLO partners are permanent members of the Energy Modeling Forum (most recently participants in EMF-22 and EMF24 ), and of the Integrated Assessment Models Consortium (IAMC).

pe inter   Since 1989 PE International provides conscientious companies with cutting-edge tools, in-depth knowledge and an unparalleled spectrum of experience in making both corporate operations and products more sustainable. Applied methods include implementing management systems, developing sustainability indicators, life cycle assessment (LCA), carbon footprint, design for environment (DfE), environmental product declarations (EPD), technology benchmarking, or eco-efficiency analysis, emissions management, clean development mechanism projects and strategic CSR consulting. Moreover, PE offers two leading software solutions, with the SoFi software for corporate sustainability with web-based data collection and the GaBi software for product sustainability. Interactive reports (i-report Tool) based on sophisticated LCA models developed in GaBi can be made available for technical experts who don’t have an LCA background. This allows the analysis of the environmental performance and the evaluation of alternatives of ‘what-if’ scenarios during the development & design stage of a product.

 The European Institute for Energy Research (EIFER) is a research institute founded in 2001 by EDF and the KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) under the legal status of a European Economic Interest Grouping (EEIG), with the ambitions to be the center of excellence on “Sustainable Cities” and “Distributed energy” for EDF R&D, to develop partnerships with research institutes in Germany and in Europe and to intensify the link between the research networks and industry.

EIFER is employing 113 researchers, with a wide range of scientific competencies, working mainly on energy planning and simulation from neighbourhood to regional scale, on energy supply through the development of distributed energy solutions and on the economic evaluation of impact on climate and environment.

The Energy and Environment Economics group is a team of about 15 researchers working on energy systems analysis (modelling of the German energy system based on TIMES and on System Dynamics) and on the assessment of externalities of energy supply (external costs, LCA).
